When good therapy still lands in the same place
Most clinicians know this patient. Years of solid work. Real insight. Real relief. And still, underneath it, the same experience of the self returns.
SMBT understands this as a structural limit, not a therapeutic failure and not resistance. A Core Negative Self-Meaning forms early, often before words, and lives in emotional, sensory, and somatic memory, where insight and reframing can’t reliably reach it.
This hour is an introduction to working at that level.
If you’ve heard a client say something like this, this webinar is for you.
What We’ll Cover
What a Self-Meaning is
How it differs from a thought, belief, or schema, and why that distinction matters clinically.
Why insight has a ceiling
Why a client can know something isn’t true about them and still experience it as true.
The SMBT method
An overview of the three phases: Preparation, Processing, and Integration.
A clinical illustration
A composite case showing how a Core Negative Self-Meaning is identified and worked with.
Fitting it into your practice
How SMBT deepens psychodynamic, IFS, somatic, cognitive, and other approaches rather than replacing them.
Live Q&A
Bring your questions for Dr. Ignacio and Dr. Taylor.
