You’ve done the communication work. The couple can name their pattern. And they still end up in the same fight. In 60 minutes, you’ll see what keeps that fight coming back, and how to work beneath it with your couples clients.

Why Attend

The fight is rarely about the text message

Most couples therapists know this moment. One partner says, “You didn’t text me back for three hours.” The other says, “I was working. Why does everything have to become a crisis?” Within seconds, the argument is about control, respect, and being “too much” or “not caring.”

The text is just the spark. Underneath, each partner carries an early belief about their own worth, like “I don’t matter” or “I’m not enough,” and the fight sets off both at once. The person we most want to hear “you matter” from can become the one who seems to confirm “you don’t.”

This hour gives you a way to work beneath what the couple is fighting about, so sessions stop stalling on the same argument.

“Intimacy can activate the very Self-Meaning the relationship was hoped to disconfirm.”

If you’ve watched a couple circle the same fight for months and wondered what to try next, this webinar is for you.

In One Hour

What We’ll Cover

01

How a small moment becomes a big fight

Trace how an ordinary moment turns into meaning, emotion, and a protective reaction, so you can slow the sequence down in session.

02

The early wound each partner brings

How early, relationally encoded experiences like “I don’t matter” or “I’m not enough” shape what each partner brings to the relationship.

03

The cycle that keeps couples stuck

How each partner’s protection unintentionally confirms the other’s old wound, and how the Core Conflictual Relationship Theme (CCRT) maps what each one is trying to get from the other.

04

One couple, followed start to finish

A composite case traced from the surface fight to her pattern of “I don’t matter” and his pattern of “I’m not good enough.”

05

When a partner is experienced as someone from the past

How a present partner gets experienced through earlier relational figures, and why differentiating past from present is central to the work.

06

What to do next in session

The four therapeutic movements that guide the work (Discover, Differentiate, Transform, Relate), followed by live Q&A with Dr. Ignacio and Dr. Taylor.
